Beautiful coastal bouldering in South West UK

On my birthday there was only one place I really wanted to go bouldering; Ladye Bay. Mostly I wanted to get on an epic line called the Darkest Hour (F7B+) and repeat one of my favourite problems down there named Highwayman (F7A+), but I also enjoyed the weather and amazing location to take a few photos on the day. Ladye Bay near Clevedon in North Somerset has a brilliant mix of problems, from F5 to around F7C, but with a leaning towards the mid to high grades. The tidal bay has two main sectors which get sun and shade at different times of day so it can be ideal on a really hot day as you'll always find somewhere to climb. The tidal range and speed of change is remarkable here, and I've seen people barbecuing on the beach lose their entire dinner to the shifting tide. Luckily most of the bouldering stays dry expect at unusually high tides - although we were racing to all get Doughnut Frenzy finished before the tide swept into the little cave it starts in! The Rhinog Traverse, North Wales

It’s been a while since I posted about a walk on here. It’s not for lack of days out. It’s just that I’ve been trying to write the tale of my Cuillin Ridge traverse and struggling to get it to a reasonable length (unlike the walk itself). It’s going to be a tale of disappointment and joy. Pain, exhaustion and seafood. And camping. But having written just about the experience so far it’s something like the length of a short novel. Fontainebleau Trip October 2015

It's been quite some time since I did a blog post, and with so much coming up this year I thought I'd better get back on it. Since the Scotland road trip I last posted I've enjoyed a great 4 day bouldering trip to Font, an awesome scrambling epic on Tryfan, endured a frustrating sprained ankle from a highball bouldering fall, injured both middle fingers bouldering too much and finally started getting back in shape with a big walk around the Brecons this month. Having completed my Summer Mountain Leader training last May I'm planning to get as much work completed towards my consolidation as possible this year - plans are afoot to get across the Cuillin Ridge and climb as many mountains as possible in Scotland.
